Why LOTUS?
Rise Up
An ancient symbol, the Lotus Flower has held significance in many cultures for thousands of years.
It is known for its unique ability to rise, unstained, from some of the deepest and murkiest waters on our planet.
Opening one petal at a time each morning and returning to its home beneath the water each evening, the Lotus Flower has come to symbolize strength and resilience. It shows us that some of the most beautiful elements of life can come from some of the darkest places.
At The Lotus Project, we seek to EMPOWER.
Life, no matter which path you walk along, is full of “murky waters.”
Our mission is to give both individuals and communities the tools to rise above the mud, while simultaneously embracing the lessons it teaches us.
With a focus on inclusion, relationship building, conflict resolution, community advocacy, and social justice, we offer a variety of experiences for humans of all ages and backgrounds. From classes and camps, to corporate workshops and individual coaching, we strive to Listen, Observe, Talk, Understand, and Share.
From the mud, something beautiful can grow. From our challenges and struggles, we can grow.
We want to change the world.
And we would love for you to join us on our journey...
Our Mission
The Lotus Project builds community and inspires change by providing accessible, inclusive, and affirming theatre and creative experiences that explore the hardship and beauty of the human condition. Using the arts as a vehicle, we focus on self empowerment, relationship building, and community advocacy; and we connect through our shared humanity, with ourselves, each other, and the world.
Our Values
Be a GOOD HUMAN
Inclusion is a RIGHT, not a PRIVILEGE
Everyone's (art is) Beautiful. Everyone's (art is) Perfect.
Stand UP not BY
Obstacles are Opportunities for Growth and Change
Every human's experience is unique and valid
Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, BELONGING
At The LOTUS Project, we are wholeheartedly committed to creating, fostering, and maintaining an environment founded on the ideas of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging. We seek and embrace humans of any age, race, color, ethnicity, cultural or religious background, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, relationship/marital status, physical or mental ability, political affiliation, socio-economic status, and all other human characteristics that make us unique.
Land Acknowledgment
The LOTUS Project (NC) understands that we reside and work on the stolen land of the traditional Catawba Indian Nation. We honor and respect the many indigenous lives lost to the colonization of this land and the intergenerational trauma that has resulted from it. We thank the indigenous peoples for their stewardship of this land and are committed to incorporating the experiences and perspectives of Indigenous peoples in our work as we continue on our diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging journey.
